Sunflower Wrap
This is a variation of the adjoining wrap. Begin with a square of 21 satin stitches on all four sides. The creator of this stitch, Mildred Torgerson, cautions all against using ordinary satin stitch blocks because they don’t provide a place to hide the thread when moving from one area to the next. Cut and remove threads as shown in 14A. Begin in the lower left corner by wrapping two fabric threads to the first junction. Weave the wrapped bar with two threads of the adjacent unwrapped bar five times. Wrap around the remainder of the unwrapped bar to the border. Hide thread on wrong side under one satin stitch. Wrap two remaining fabric threads back to the junction, ending with the thread coming out of the center space (14A). Weave the four unwrapped threads with the wrapped bar five times. Wrap around the remainder of the unwrapped bar to the next junction. Weave the two adjacent unwrapped threads with the four wrapped threads five times. Wrap around the remainder of the unwrapped bar to the border. Continue as shown in 14B and 14C to complete the sunflower stitch. The circle in the center will form automatically.
