Chocolate Depression Cake

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 6 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 cup water

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease or spray an 8" x 8" pan. You don’t need a mixer for this recipe. Everything can be done with a sturdy spoon. Mix all the dry ingredients together in a medium bowl. Add the wet ingredients, mix well. Pour into the prepared pan. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when stuck into the center of the pan. Top with your favorite frosting or just sprinkle with powdered sugar.
